Is it Sell Sell Sell or Buy Buy Buy?

Are you a panic seller or buyer on dips?

I received this report from Bloomberg titled "China’s Stock Selloff Halts as State Media Calls for Calm".

I am not making light of this sell-off and I did receive a few texts from clients whether I had any exit plans in place-- my reply to them is: 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳?

𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗼𝗳𝗳 (𝗶𝗳 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱) 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆. The same goes for the sell off in March 2020. I recall the panic and the anxiety and most investors told me "there will be a second wave." True enough, we had waves upon waves but the markets have rallied through the waves-- those who did not act on the buys, always feel that market is "too high" now.

What then is high?

If I were to extrapolate data, in 2015 thru 2016, there were indeed 2 sell offs amounting to about 10% each time but in the greater scheme of things, 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝟭𝟴𝟳% 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹, would one panic over the recent sell off? Or would we add more positions into the market?

𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐫-𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐬𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Maybe that's why I have such equanimity over this sell down. In fact, I have been buying.

The best INVESTORS may not have the best acumen, but they keep their emotion out of the investing or partner with someone whom they can trust to do so.
